The Hon. J. Bryce had a civic welcome in the Sydney Town Hall today. This evening the’ GovernorGeneral, Lord Denman, is giving a dinner in his honour. To-morrow he will be welcomed at the University, and subsequently a State Government welcome will take place at Parliament House. Mr. Bryce will be Lord Denman’s guest until Friday and afterwards Lord Chelmsford’s guest.

An old identity has passed away at Feilding in the person of Mrs Whirkcr at the age of 70. She wa» I>< rn at the Hutt, and came to the Feilding district >n 1864. The deceased lady passed through some stirring adventtires with the natives both in intertribal fights and in the Maori wars. She leaves a grown-up family, amongst them being several who have played in representative football matches for Manawatu for many years.

Cato, youngest daughter of I the Rev. Tancon Cato, Anglican vicar in the parish of Braidwood. N.S.W.. was celebrated at Auckland tc-day. After the ceremony guests were entertained at the resident of the Hon. F. B. Sewell. Mr. Miller is well known in Hastings, having been for a number of years in the employ of Messrs. Williams and Kettle, Ltd.
