£,. Petersburg. June 29. Haase, a German. was sentenced two years’ penal servitude at Odessa for photographing military L'luges at S’ Petersburg, Warsaw various p ties on the froti'ier in 1911. Berlin. June 29. Lieutenant Dahm, studying languages in Russia, was arrested at Warsaw. Herr von Kiderlin-Waech-ter demands his release, believing that his arrest was a retaliation for the Koslevitch case.
FRENCH GUN FATALITY. FAULTY POWDER AGAIN. (Received J. 8.50 a.m.) Paris, June 30. Much anxiety is felt over the accident on the cruiser Michelot, in consequence of the opinion that st was defective powder caused an emission amidst alcohol gases. Officers demand all powders manufactured up to the present year should be destroyed and an enquiry ordered. U.L.P, AND COST OF DEFENCE. Auckland, June 50. The Auckland district council of the United Labour party has resolved, “That this organisation respectfully demands that a return should be issued immediately giving (1) a clear and fully-detailed statement ox the amount expended on the new compulsory military training scheme up to date; (2) a cieai and detailed estimate of the expenditure for the balance of the year and probable future expenditure; (3) the number and salaries of Imperial and other officers and the amounts expended by them on travelling expenses; <4) the number of men liable for training, the actual number under training, and the number passed through camps, stating how many of these were old volunteers; (5) the names o? the contractors fcr uniforms and equipment, with the amount of tbetr contracts.”
