I PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Palmerston N.. July ’. A number of youths appeared in Court to-day on charges of failure to comply with the conditions of the Defence Act. One youth gave as an excuse for not attending the camp that bis mother was dying. He was convicted and discharged.

A third who had been enrolled. but had failed to carry out any personal service during the whole year, never presented himself at parades or camps, and had openly boasted that he would not comply with the Act, was fined £.’ and order to p.-.v costs £2.
