NE TEMERE DECREE.

CANADIAN MARRIAGE LAWS

(Received 20, 11.55 a.m.) Ottawa, June 19.

Mr. E. Lancaster, author of the Lancaster Bill, which has just been declared ultra vires by a Supreme Court decision, declares that the measure was intended to remove all doubt as to the effect of the Ne Temere Decree in thei Quebec province. If the Privy Council decides in favour of the Supreme Court’s decision, holding that only Canadian provinces have power to make marriage laws, the same result will be achieved as if the bill had been actually 7 passed by the Dominion Parliament.
