ARTIFICIAL RUBBER.
MANUFACTURED AT MANCHESTER.
London, June 18.
Professor Perkin, of Manchester University, has anounced- the discovery of synthetic rubber on a commercial scale, manfacturable at 2/6 per lb, which may be reduced to 1/-. Fusel oil is produced from starch in maize and then converted into isoprene, whence rubber is extracted by contact sodium.
