Heavy rain fell during the night and the course promises to be very soft for the opening day of the meeting. The bulk of the horses were restricted this morning to steady pacing .
Irish Rifle spurted four furlongs in 53 3-ssec, Naumai taking a fifth of a second longer and Coronctted 53 2-ssecs.
Waiputerc easily beat Loolantcr over six furlongs in I min 23sce. Theodore covered seven furlongs in Imin 3 2-ssec.
Master Theory was scratched for the Northern Hurdles at 10.15.
