The rad death from burns of Mr. O. A. Cadw ailadc-r, of Carterton. recalls the fact that some few years ago his twin brother, Harry, another fine young fellow, met his death bybeing drowned in the Rnamahunga river. Very great sympathy is felt by all settlors in the district for the mother, wife, and family in their present bereavement, says the Nev.Zealand Times.”
Corporal P. Herbert, late cf the Bengal Horse Artillery, who served under Brigadier-General Sir Harry Lawrence at Lucknow in 1857, is a resident of Tauranga. He is the only veteran in the Auckland district who served in the entrenched camp at Cawnpore, under General Sir M. IL Wheeler, before the Indian mutiny. Mr. Herbert would like (says the “Herald”) io correspond with any veteran of the garrison of Lucknow resident in the Dominion.
Commissioner W. J. Richards, recently appointed by General Booth to the territorial command cf New Zealand, and due with Mrs. Richards and family in Wellington on Wednesday, June 12th, is to be tendered a public reception in the Army’s Citadel. Vivian street, on the day following his ai rival. All the New Zealand provincial commanders will be present, in addition to the two social secretaries for men’s and women’s work. Major Colvin. “War Cry” editor, and Major Kirk, trade manager, will also take part in the proceedings. The whole of the Wellington province field officers have been instructed to attend.
