SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

NAPIER MAIN SCHOOL

The Napier Main School Committee met last evening. Present : Mr. C. H. Edwards (chairman). Mesdaaies E. M. Ingram. M. Thcakstone and M. Fossey, Mcs.r-'. E. P. Smyrk. AV. Scott. J. C. Thomson. J. S. E. Ennor and the Rev. J. K. Archer. HEADMA S T E R ’ S RI?PD R T.

The headmaster (Mr. J. Hislop) reported that the average attendance for the past month had been 712, and the highest attendance 719. The present roll number was 782. For several weeks tlie attendance had been affected by mumps and chicken pox, but it was now practically normal again. Miss Macdonald had been appointed to a position in the Te Aro school (Wellington). The following pupils had been .successful in tlie life-saving competitions held at the Municipal Baths on April 20th : —Ruth Proffitt, gold medal for best girl and proficiency certificate : Kathleen Cox, silver medal for sec-

ond best girl and elementary certificate ; Reginald Cogswell, third place few Cottrell Cup. The report was adopted, headmaster to bo congratulated on the success of the life-saving competitions. Except for one week, in which there were wet days, the attendance has bevn excellent; in fact, the average is more than sufficient'to entitle the school to another assistant, if it is continued -for one more quarter. School Repairs.—Taking advantage of the ]>re«nre of the carpentc ;■ employed in making cupboards, the chairman authorised various minor repairs to windows, doors, etc. The larger task of attending to the leaking roof of the Infant School will need th? consent of the boaid’s foreman of works.

General.—Two teachers. Misses Gray and Seamens, were each absent a week owing to sickness, a doctor’s certificate being sent in each case. The Inspectors’ reports on the vari-: ous departments have come to hand, : and are enclosed herewith. It is ex- | peeted that the disinfecting of the , school, deferred from the Eastci'i holidays, will be carried out during I the term holidays, which begin on' the 2-lfh hist.
