HASTINGS REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION.

The annual general meeting,df the Hastings Referees’ Association was held last evening, the president (Mr. L. F. Pegler) occupying the chair. The balance-sheet, showing the association to be in a sound financial position, was adopted. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mr. H. Stevens; vice-presidents, Messrs. H. M. Campbell, M.P., W. 0. A. McKenzie, H. lan Simson, ,S. E. Grenside, J. Garnett and F. M. Nelstoii; lion. secretary and treasurer, Mr. R. Henderson (re-elected): appointment board, Mr. W. Keith (re-elected). Hearty votes of thanks were accorded the retiring president (Mr. L. F. Pegler) and the secretary (Mr. R. Henderson). Subsequently an ordinary meeting was held, at which Mr. H. Stevens presided. Mr. W. A. Knox (Auckland) wrote thaiiking the association for the kindness he had received when attending the recent referees’ conference at Hastings. It was decided to procure two dozen of the New Zealand Referees’ Association’s handbooks. ' It was resolved to forward a Ictte.j to his Worship the Mayor (Mr. J. Garnett) thanking him for his many kindnesses at the Easter conference and especially for the generous treatment he had extended to the visitors, and for securing the use of' the Borough Council Chambers for the meeting. Accounts amoupting to £2/8/- were passed for payment. WAIPAWA v. ONGA ONGA. * - - The Waipawa Seniors met Onga Onga Seniors at Waipawa on Saturday, when the former were victorious by 13 to nil. It is a coincidence that the score was exactly the reverse when the teams met at Onga Onga the previous Saturday. The Waipawa Juniors also defeated the Onga Onga Juniors by 9 to 5. THE SECESSION PROPOSAL. Dunedin, May 13. At a meeting of the, management committee of the Otago Rugby Union it was decided to instruct its delegates to the New Zealand Union to support the Hawke’s Bay proposal in favour of secession from the English Union.
