CASUALTIES.

FALL OVER A CLIFF. Wellington, May 13. Mr. R. Allan, a prominent Nelsonian. was seriously injured last night. With a party of ladies he was hdl climbing yesterday, and owing to the mist he got off the track. A 9 o’clock he was proceeding ahead and fell over a precipice. The girls remained all night on the ledge of the rock,, and at daybreak Miss Hunter set oil to Nelson to obtain assistance, while Misses Bogle and Roberts went to Mr. Allen and covered him with part of their clothing. The police and a doctor arrived in the morning, returning to town in the afternoon. Mr. Allen is semi-conscious. A medical examination discloses his injuries to consist of severe cuts on the head and chest, while several ribs arc also broken. His condition is serious.

FARMER KILLED

A fanner named George Lotto was killed at Queen's Flat to-day. He was loading a dray when the horse bolted, and he was thrown out. of tile cart anil picked up dead.

A DOSE OF CARBOLIC

Christchurch. May 11

Spencer Morton, aged 22 years, employed in a store at Ohatipo, committed suicide with carbolic acid yesterday. The reason is not yet apparent.
