FOREDOOMED TO DEFEAT.
TO THE EDITOR. * Sir.—Certain defeat stares th sham Liberal Ministry in the face, yet they keep running about the country talking about what thev will do. It is the most farcical procedure the country has ever witnessed. A scratch Cabinet composed of wealthy beer monopolists and freeholders, together with prohibition leaseholders led by an ex-lor;
of the real old school, forms a Ministry that is the laughing stock ol the Dominion. We once read of a certain member jumping up in hit pyjamas and driving off post haste in the early hours of the morning to save a supernatural and marvellous Government lest they shd¥Hd be defeated and the world would cease te turn on its axis, and all would go to eternal smash if their “Yes-No-North-by-South - weak - kneed - officeworshipping - policy- of -borrow - and bust” was defeated. What a save. But by the holy poker that same enthusiast will have to get up early. and whether clad in pyjamas 01 otherwise he will have his work cui out if he saves the ship from sinking this time. Personally. I have no time for the Massey crowd, but they could not be worse than the present lamentable spectacle, and it will de the so-called Liberals, with all then bombast. extravagence. couscrip tion, and Monarch- worshipping humbug no harm to put them in Opposition. The vice of the position is that a lot of them, with characteristic principle and courage will rat and support the now Opposition. Politics aie indeed rotten to the core. What is now wanted is a strong man witn democratic convictions to bring order ot chaos.—l “- OKKEK Hastings, May 14.
