Maclaren In the Australians’ second innings an official correction of scores makes Carkeek’s total 18, and the total for the innings 160Riley’s aveiage was 6 wickets for 90 runs. . Joms made some fine cuts, while Guan’s seme was mainly made by on play. The halt-century was hoisted m5O mins. The bowlers were pitching the ball too far up, and the fielding was uneven. Matthews relieved Hazlitt at 85, Jones being then 47, made chiefly in singles. In Matthews' third over, with the total at 99, George Gunn, playing back, was bowled. Barring one stroke in the slips his innings wae faultless, he being) particularly strong on the leg side. Seven runs later Jones was caught at second slip by Mayne. He played a masterly innings lasting 95 minutes and hit four fourers. The century had taken 90 minutes. AVhitty being indisposed retired, Emery/ fielding as his substitute. At 144 McLaren relieved Matthews and in his second over got Hardstaff caught at the wicket after he had made seven by wretched cricket. At lunch time the score was 148 for 3, John Gunn having made 33, including seven fourers in half an hour.
After lunch the attendance rose to 3000. Whitty resumed fielding. The wicket played excellently. ’McLaren and Macartney bowled. Matthews relieved Macartney at 187. The batsmen, however, without mishap, took the score to 209, when Payton was bowled in playing back to Matthews. John Gunn had scored 67, including 11 fourers in 80 minutes by dashing play. Crawford joined John Glinn and a bye to the boundary left Notts the victory by six wickets. The Australian threw away the match by feeble batting yesterday. To-day the wicket had quite recovered.
