DEAD IN HIS HUT.

Dunedin, May 5. Michael O’Sullivan, about 75 years of age, was found dead this morning In the hut in which he resided alongside Mill and Co.’s coalyard, Rattray street. He had apparently thrown down a match, which set fire to a sack on the floor. A carter in the employ of the firm noticed smoke issuing from the hut, and he broke open the door and extinguished the flames, ffp returned to the hut when the smoke cleared away and found O’Sullivan in a corner dead. COALMINER INJURED. Dunedin, May 5. Simon Weatherall, a miner employed in Craig’s coalmine at Coal Creek, met with a bad accident on Friday. He was brought to the Dunedin Hospital. His spine is injured and his condition is serious. SERIOUS ACCIDENT TO AN OTAGO VETERAN. Dunedin, May 5. Harry Flint, one of the Otago veterans of the early digging days, slipped on a mat in his residence and fell heavily, breaking his wrist and dislocating his leg. Mr. Flint is considerably over 70 years of age'. DEATH IN A TRAM CAR. Wellington, May 6. Robert MacDonald, employed as watchman in the Government Printing Office, died in a tram car when returning to his home. He was about 50 years of age. SUICIDE OF AN EX-PUBLICAN. Stratford, May 6. Frederick Smith Pollock, a wellknown coachbuilder, w’as found dead hanging in an outhouse behind his office yesterday afternoon. [Mr. Pollock was for many years proprietor of the Commercial Hotel at Stratford. ] DIED IN HARNESS. Gisborne, May 6. Thomas Farrell, aged 40, a labourer at Muriwai, died suddenly yesterday while carrying a bucket of water. DEATH OF A SETTLER. Gisborne, May 6. James Graham, a settler of Puha, was found unconscious on Cliff road on Saturday evening. He died yesterday of cerebral hemorrhage.
