IF YOU WANT TO BE POPULAR—
You must be prepared to make s everal sacrifices. There are, indeed, few things worth -having that you can get for nothing. So if you want people to like you :
You must always be ready to oblige, even to your own inconvenience. You must withhold the sneer, the angry word, the slander, and the needless repetition of an unpleasant truth, even though you feel you must burst with the effort of keeping them back. You must bo straight, honest, and fair; in other words, “be a sport—play tho game clean.” You must keep a cheerful countenance and manner, and try to help and encourage other people. You mustn’t talk about yourself too much; listen to other people’s joys and sorrows. You must always be thinking how you can help others, and be friendly and courteous to them. Of course, you can’t please everybody. But if you follow out the above rules you will win the liking of most people whose liking is worth the winning.
