LEPROSY.

A MAORI CURED. [BY TXLEGRAVH sPBCIAT..] (Own Correspondent.) Wellington, April 20. A Christchurch correspondent says that a young Maori, one of the three patients at the leprosy hospital at Quail Island, Lyttelton, was discharged yesterday afternoon and loft for his home in the North Island. He was sent to the leper station three years ago, and since then has been under the treatment of the Port Health Officer (Dr. C. H. I pham). The Maori, who is about thirty years of age. had the disease in a rather acute form, but he made good progress and his complete cure is regarded as extremely gratifying. Before leaving Lyttelton he expressed his thanks to Dr. Upham and to the caretaker of the island for the beneficient medical treatment and other attention he had received. Th's is the second cure that has been affected cn Quail Island. The previous case was that of a young Maori who was discharged about three years and six months ago. There are still two patients cn the island and they are reported to be making good progress towards recovery.
