NEW ZEALAND DEFENCE ACT. MR. MYERS’ ATTITUDE -APPLAUDED. Palmerston N., April 15. There was some discussion on the Defence Aet at a general meeting of members of the Palmerston North •Jhamber of Commerce last evening, and on the motion of the president, Mr. M. A. Elliott, seconded by Cap.ain Preece, the following resolution was carried without a dissentient voice:—“That this chamber desires so express its appeciation of the attude shown by the Minister of Defence in connection with his expressed intention of enforcing the law relating to the compulsory provisions □f the Defence Act, and that this resolution be forwarded to other chambers and local bodies in the Dominion with the request that they shall endorse the same if- it meets with their approval.”

Mr. Elliott said that- the new Minister’s attitude was strong, resourceful and reasonable. Ninetynine per cent, of the people of the Dominion was in favour of the Act, but the small minority opposed to it endeavoured by making a great noise to make it appear that the majority was in eppositon.
