PERSONAL

Dr. and Mrs. Bertram are on a visit to Napier. Mr. and Mrs. W. Ried, of Eltham, are on a short visit to Hastings. Mr. T. Barry left for Wellington to-day. M. Henri Brisson, President of the French Chamber of Deputies, is dead. Mr. and Mrs. Davis Canning and Mr. Cliff McCulloch returned to Napier after a visit to the Hot Lakes. Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Turnbull and Miss Turnbull, of Kereru are staying in Napier. Mr. and Mrs. Sorrell and child left by the Mokoia this afternoon on a holiday to Dunedin. Out of twenty-eight applicants, Mr J. B. Emmett has been elected secretary to the Masterton A. and P. Association.

Mr. James Gray, who is leaving Ashburton to reside in Napier, was presented last Friday by his friends with a travelling bag.

Mr. A. M. Retemeyer, of the H.B. A. and P. Society, was second in the final ballot for the position of secretary to the Masterton A. and P. Socicy. There were 28 applicants.

Capt. Fosey and Lieutenant Connor, of the Napier Technical College cadet,s arrived in Napier on Saturday evening Trentham. where they have been aH ending the Territorial camo. The residents of Havelock North will tender a farewell to-night to Mr. A?. E. Evans, at the Havelock Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. Evans and daughter leave to-morrow morning for Wellington on route to England. They will probablv return to Hawke’s Bay in six months time. A Press Association telegram from Christchurch announces the death of Edwin 'Watkins, Principal of the Training College since 1895. He came from London in 1873 under the control of the North Canterbury Education Board. He was 63 years of age.

The Hon. H. G. Ell, PostmasterGeneral, left Napier by the express this morning, and is expected to ar--ivc in Auckland to-morrow. While north he, will open the new post office nt Te Aroha. The Hon. G. W. Russell, Minister of Internal Affairs. and the Hon. G. Laurenson, Minister for Customs and Labour, will also visit shortly.
