TARADALE TOWN BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Taradale Town Board was held last evening. Present: Messrs. W. H. C. Howard (chairman), J. R. Martin, L, S. MacDonald, T. Alexander, J. Eddy, and J. H. Rundle. CORRESPONDENCE. From Sainsbury, Logan and Williams .notifying the board that Mr. R. Neaglc had leased to T. Leadbelter lots 4,5, 6,7, 8, and 9 of sections 48 and 49, containing 36a. 2r. Lip. —Received. A.M.P. Society re bank deposit receipt for £soo.—Received. From J. Vigor Brown, M.P., thanking the board for kind resolution in connection with East Coast railway. —Received. Minister of Public Works, returning the plan in respect of exemption of land.—Received. Fiom Education Department notifying that the board’s share of the £4OOO in subsidies to public libraries was £7 6-7.—Received. Valuation of Land Department account in connection with valuation roll, £3'4'2.— To be paid. Inspector of Nuisances’ report was received.. From Hawke’s Bay County Council asking the' board to appoint a representative on the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board and that they had appointed V r - U - A - Macdonald for the beard’s approval. Moved by -I. Eddy and seconded by J. R. Martin that the appointment of Mr. G. A. Macdonald by the H.B. County Council be approved.—Carried. Government Insurance Department notifying that the extra liability in connection with the Workers Compensation Act would be one- ! eighth more than the present premium.—To be attended to. From T. Nicholson asking for testimonial as regards the scenery supplied to the new Town Hall.—Testimonial to be given as soon as scenery is completed and fixed. GENERAL. A complaint was received in connection with lightless cycles and carts, and action could not be taken owing to the Town Board’s by-laws not. being forwarded by the board’s solicitors. Moved by L. S. McDonald and seconded by T. Alexander that the clerk write to Messrs. Sainsbury, Logan and Williams asking them to have the board’s by-laws ready by the next ordinary meeting. —Carried.

Notice of motion by Mr. J. Martin was given re night soil for next ordinary meeting. Dlrs. B. Hawkins wrote complaining of the damage done to her lawn by T. Jeffares’ horses being on the rbad. Moved by L. S. McDonald and seconded by J. Eddy, that the clerk write to Mr. T. Jeffares warning him to keep his hones off the road, otherwise the ranger will be instructed to take proceedings against him. —Carried.

A petition was forwarded to the board from R. M. Glenny and others to close the shops as follows: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 7 p.m., Wednesdays at 1 p.m. and Saturdays at 10.30 p.m. Moved by J. H. Rundle and seconded by the ehairman that the petition be referred back to Mr, R. M. Glenny.—Carried.

Moved by L; S. McDonald and seconded by J. Eddy that the clerk write to 'Messrs. Rochfort and Son for the estimate of the bridge in Church road over the Taipo creek as early as possible. —Carried. Owing to an oversight the tenders for the bridge over the Taipo creek could not be attended to. Mr. 11. Hefford is to be thanked for the garden seat presented to the board and placed near the Post Office. It was decided 'to call the architect’s attention to the fact that rain was coming in in the vestibule. The Chairman moved find J. H. Rundle seconded, that L. S. McDonald purchase a cover for the piano. Carried. It was moved by J. Eddy and seconded by McDonald, that Messrs. Martin, Howard and the mover meet on Thursday morning to arrange for the storing of seats.—Carried. Mr. L. McDonald moved and was seconded by the Chairman that a snecial meeting of the board be held on Thursday, March 21st in connection with the new Town Hall. Carried. Accounts totalling £76 8 8 were passed for payment and the meeting adjourned at 10.45 p.m.
