WAIPAWA.
(Own Correspondent). A meeting of the Holiday Association was held yesterday. Mr. F. E. Lock was elected chairman for the ensuing year. Rules are to be drafted for the working of the Association. It was decided to close the shops at 11 a.m. on March 20th. on the occasion of Bt. Patrick’s Sports. At a meeting of the St. Patrick’s Sports Club it was decided to hold picnic sports on Wednesday, March 20th. Mr. H. M. Rathbone has donated handsome trophies to the club, but it was decided to hold these over for competition until a subsequent sports gathering. School Cadets from Otane and Waipukurau met here yesterday, and with the Walpawa Cadets were put through their facings by Ser-geant-Major Burr. It is hoped that the Waipawa Chamber of Commerce be represented at a meeting at Elsthorpe at an early date in connection with a proposal for extending telephone com municat ion to the settlers and to try and induce them to connect with the Waipawa exchange. If this object is attained a continuous service at Waipawa would be practically assured. As Mr. W. Little, of Argyle, was driving in to attend the Council meeting yesterday, the horse shied at a traction engine. Both he and Mrs. Little, who was with him, were thrown out. Mr. Little was bruised and cut about the face, but Mrs. Little escaped injury.
