FIRES.
THE BRISBANE BLAZE. Brisbane, March 8. The damage done by the fire in Fitzroy buildings is estimated at £65,000. The whole is covered by the insurance. Stewart and Sons’ big soft goods warehouse adjoining was drenched by sprinklers and the damage to their stock is serious. Other adjoining premises in a lesser degree were injured by heat and water. BOARDING HOUSE AT “WELLINGTON. Wellington, Mar. 9. At 2 o’clock this morning an 18roomed boarding house in Sydney street, owned by Messrs. Hamilton, Gilmer and McGuire, and occupied by Miss Elizabeth Newman, war completely gutted by fire. The outbreak was discovered by a boarder named O. W. Exall, and he quickly roused the occupants, who just escaped in their night attire. All the boarders lost all their belongings. Exall was, slightly injured in the attempt to save some of his goods. March 9. The insurances on the furniture were £2OO in the New Zealand, and on the building £6OO in the Sun.
