TO TUB EDITOR. Sir, -Mr. Herd’s capacity-to miss all the real points at issue in this controversy is really remarkable, but to one who is so deeply interested in side-tracking it is fortunate that he should be so capable. I am not asking for justice at the tribunal of public opinion, nor from (Mr. Hird —1 have made an explanation —made it, in fact, several times, but Mr. Herd appeas to be quite incapable of grasping the situation. I propose to leave Mr .Hird to his “calf and dish rag” argument ; he is far too good for me at that sort of thing.* 1 should be glad to know, however, the gu'ounds upon which Messrs. Robertson and acted when they handed back the £lOO to Mr. Crosse. Assuming that Mr. McCarthy is approached for his opinion, and that his opinion is that I had a right to exercise & casting tote. will Messrs. Robertson and Hird pay £lOO to the Napier Hospital. I want a straight out answer “Yes” or “No.” —I am, etc.; PAUL J. MURPHY. Mahora, 7th March, 1912.
