SPORTS PROTECTION LEAGUE
The aileg-’tirn. says tLe Christchurch ‘'Press.” that has sometimes been made against the Sports Pro;ection League, that its only concern is. the protection of horseracing and rhe totalisator, received emphatic ’’(.■futation at the me'ting nt Ashbur'on on Tuesday niuht. The branch of the League that Ims been formed there starts with a committee composed of representatives of practically every sport, that is followed in New Zealand —raving, trotting, cricket. football, golf, bowls, swimming, athletics, lawn tennis, cycling, boxing, croquet, motoring, rifle shooting, and hunting. We do not know whether every branch that has been formed rejoices in such a remarkable combination of sport lovers on its ccmniittec. but the example of the Ashburton people might well be foih’v. ed ‘.n other places. In the. present temper of a section of the community it is desirable that all who wish to seee good clean sport prosper should combine to protect its interests and encourage its development.*
