The newspapers state that General Caneva informed the Government that he was unable to provide a decisive victory in Tripoli which would enable Italy to impose an unconditional peace. All he could offer was slow conquest of Tripoli and Cyrenaica. BRITISH CRUISER SHELLED. Aden. Feb. 16. The Turkish fort at Perim shelled the British cruiser Dido, mistaking her for an Italian vessel. The Dido had not heard of the blockade and approached the fort.
