In continuation of the North Island bands’ contest, in the E I - hit Bass Solo the judge admitted that the many competitors set him a hard task, and it had been a case of splitting straws to arrive at a correct decision. The result was as follows:--P. Johnstone (Gisborne City), -18 points, 1 ; AL Codyrc (Westport. Garrison). 47 points. 2; AL Hale (Westport Garrison). -16 ; J. Baxter (Waihi Federal). 46; W. Penhall (Wanganui CiiV). -15; H. Calkin (Whangarm Municipal). -15 ; E. A. Parr (Whangarei Munit’ipn.l). -1-1 : C- Ai’chster (Gisborne City). 11 ; F. Aleath (Waihi Federal). C; F. Tunniclifl'e (Wanganui City). 42.

ANNUAL MEETING OE THE AS S OCT A TI U N. Tin* annual meeting of th? North Island Band Association was held this morning. The president’s report mentioned >hat tire Masterton. Whangmei ar.d Tiinaru b;mds had joined the association, and that Blenheim had resigned. The executive regretted that there was not a larger representation at the present contest, and. referring to the (lash of dates with the South Island Association, stated that they understood there was a probability of such not oecnring again, as there was a possibility of tb.e. South Island Association meeting this association with a view to amalgamating, which would undoubtedly be better for all parties, and decidedly in the interests of bniid4 contesting. No application has been made for the 1913 contest-, but it was possible, in tiie event of amalgamation, that the next contest would go to tac South Island. THE QUESTION Ob' AMALGAMATION. For some time past the North and South Island Associations have had under consideration the question of anialgarnation. in order that one contest niigliL be held annually t-ther in the North or the South Island. and thus ensure a good attendance of bands. The need for some step being taken in this direction has been accentuated by a inmiher of North Island bands attending the South Island Association’s contest at Christch-.ireh recently, and not competing at the Tiresent contest in Gisborne. At the annual meeting oi the North Island Brass Bands Association tliis morning the matter was referred to by Lie.it.-Colonel Pnn gle. who occupied the chan - .
