RED DEER.
IN WELLINGTON DISTRICT. [BY TELEGRAPH SPECIAL.] (Own Correspondent). I Wellington, Feb. 9. Some eight or ten years ago the Wellington Acclimatisation Society commenced the work of stocking with red deer areas in the vicinity of Paraparaumu. Wainui and Mata and on the Tararua ranges near Eketahuna. Recently reports ha--e reached the society that some oxeo - lent heads have been seen about all three places, and the council has decided to recommend the Govern ment to issue shooting licenses for those districts during the coming season, as well as for tlie M airarapa. The proposal is that the season should be from Ist April to 15th May, both days inclusive.; that a separate license be required for each district : that the licensee for the Wairarapa be (as in previous years) £2. with the right to take four heads, and for the now districts £2. with, the light to take two heads onlv- If the Government consents, the boundaries of the new districts will be gazetted in the ordinary course. The Wainui waterworks reserve will, it is anticipated, be ex chided from the area.
