TAUPO TROUT.
Reports which have come to hand recently show- that Taupo has bees.me a pei feet paradise. The novice who vainly whips the stiearns and rivers of his locality will find at the big inland lake that his troubles are all over. The fish absolutely refuse to remain uncaught and ‘ bags ’ are of unheard of dimensions. This is just where trouble has arisen. Fishermen have caught far and away more fish than they can use or give away to their friends. Communication with Napier is not regular enough or sufficiently rapid to ensure fish arriving here in a fresh condition, and as a result many hundreds of pounds weight of good food is each year wasted -.‘imply buried to gel lid of it. As the result t>f comment upon this regrettable waste, Government has decided to appoint a man to take over surplus catches and smoke the fish so that it can be transported to an outside markft. This is a wise proceeding and we believe it should be carried out with a \ cry fair measure of Etfccess. If the fish arrive in gi.od rendition and al a leasonable price the market should be good. The managed of the new venture w;cin Napier to-day and a start is to be made without <l<.lay.
