SUPREME COURT.

At the Supreme Court to-day, before Mr. Justice Chapman, a young man named George Alfred Tracey, who had pleaded guilty of theft was ordered to come up for s'-ntence when called upon, but would have to make compensation for The property stolen and pay £5 towards the cost of the prosecution.
Frederick William Green, formerly managing secretary of the Wellington Working Men’s Club, pleaded not guilty of the theft of £173 19 9 from the funds of the institution. Evidence for the Crown and for the defence was given and conn sol addressed the court. The judge will sum up in the morning. Palmerston North, Feb. 5.
The Supreme Court was opened today. the Chief Justice presiding. Only four criminal cases were set down. James Fitzgerald, on a charge of assault and robbery at Shannon, was found guilty of common assault, and was admitted to probation for twelve months on condition that he did not touch liquor or visit hotels during that period.
