STEAMER CROYDON OVERDUE.
FORTY DAYS FROM ’FRISCO. Auckland. Feb. 2. It is now time that the Australian Mail Line steam er Croydon, which left San Francisco on December 22. for Auckland, was reported, and b.w arrival is looked for daily. Undec ordinary circumstances she shorn ' have put in an appearance at tire beginning of last week, but she is mev ferry days out. Inquiry litis <-n made in regard to the vessel on is land steamers that have arriv'd, ui. nothing has been elicited as to her whereabouts.' On inquiry at the office of Mess, s J. C. Speddmg and Co., who are the local agents for the Australian .’lai' Line, it was stated that the i >-.m I s non-appearance was causing nr; w xicty. Hie t rovdon has a large gene ral cargo from Frisco. 600 tons of which is ror New Zealand ports. The steamer, which has not made a trip to Auckland previously, is 3757 tons burden, and under ccmmnnd of Captain McLean. Sb" n•built by J. L. Thompson and Sons, Ltd., at Sutherland, in 1898, for the Homeric Steamship Go.
The last vessel to visit Auckland from ’Frisco under the Mail Line flag was the Strathnrdle, which arrived on December bth after a passage of 33 days.
