The "Times'’ in its annual review says that the Commonwealth fared well in the past year, but less well than the two previous years. While admitting that the Government’s loan expenditure was justifiable, some of the expenditure ought not to have been incurred. The increase in the burden of taxation was severe. There had been do call for the proposed banking legislation. Discussing Xew Zealand, it says that the Dominion continues fairly prosperous, though owing to its increased indebtedness and the industrial unrest, the position was less favourable than- in 1910.
