LIEUT. FRENCH SHAMS SUICIDE. (Received 17, (0.40 a.m.) Berlin, Jan. 16. Lieut. French, imprisoned in a fortress for espionage, apparently attempted suicide. He was found hanging in the fortress by a warder who cut him down. He was not burl. The authorities are convinced it was a sham attempt made byFrench. hoping to be transferred to the hospital with a view of escaping
