Their Alajestics and Queen Alexandra will attend a Thanksgiving Service at St. Path's, London, on February 6th.

Air. F. G. Cowper, of Kaitoke, Dannevirke, was in town yesterday. Air. L. Rathbone, Dannevirke. was in Napier yesterday. The death is announced in London of Lord Beelby Lawly AVenlock. Airs Harry Beard, of Sydney, is at present on a visit to her sister, Mrs Geo. Beard, Hastings.

Mr. and Airs Sturrock intend spending a holiday at Taupo and will leave Napier to-morrow morning. All-. Evans, manager of the Loan and Al ercantile, Dannevirke. was n Napier for the wool sale. Air. and Airs. F. Armstrong and Air. and Airs. Broad returned by motor car to Akitco to-day.

Air., Airs., Miss ami Master Caldwell arrived in Napier b.v motor from Auckland yesterday.

Air. R. E. Bunny, manager of William and Kettle’s Dannevirke branch, was in town for the wool sale.

Air. Airs, and Aliss Waschmann, who have been spending a short holiday in Napier, left for Gisborne by the Alokoia last night.

A Sydney cablegram states that Air. Johnson, Chief Railway Commissioner at Alantua, intends spending a short holiday in New Zealand.

A Press Association cable from London this afternoon reports the death of the Rt. Hon. Henry Labouchere, proprietor of “Truth,” at the age of 71 years.

Air. Alartin, Reform Party organiser, was in Hastings to-day. He left this afternoon, accompanied by Messrs AV. Aliller (Gisborne) and Farrington (Auckland) en route to Rotorua.

Air. A. Brooke-Taylor left Hastings this morning en route for Christchuhch to visit his brother, Air C. Brooke-Taylor, who recently fell from a ladder and seriously injured his spine as the result of the accident.

On Saturday evning last, at the Railway Social Hall. Wellington, the members cf the Napier-Taranaki-Alanawatii Railway Sick Benefit. Society presented its secret ary (Air. AV. Pepper) with an illuminated address album on the occasion of his retirement from the railway service on superannuation.

Mr. C. H. Poole. cx-M.P. for Auckland Cit yWest, has decided to leave shortly for America, in wh : ch country he spent some years before his entry into New Zealand politics. It is understood that’ Air. Poole is likely to take up a lucrative position as a Tourist Department lecturer in the States.

Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Elliott, late of Hastings, New Zealand, have, says a London correspondent, taken a house in South Devon for the winter, and will there have staying with them Mrs. Elliott’s sisters, the Misses Beecroft, late of Hawke’s Bay, and now of Norfolk. Later on Mr. Elliott returns to Buenos Ayres.

Mr. E. T. James, of the firm of Rush and James, architects, Hastings, has received word .that he has passed the examinations for the “associate” degree of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, of which institue Mr. Rush is a “Fellow.” Mr lames also holds a first class diploma for the International Correspondence School for their complete architectural course.

Sir Joseph Ward, Prime Minister, accompanied by Lady Ward, Miss Eileen and Master Rat Ward, arrived in Napier by motor yesterday afternoon. The party put up at the Masonic, and later 011 went, out to Otatara, Mr. G. P. Donnelly’s residence, returning to town m the evening. During his stay in town Sir Joseph was visited by a number of friends, including Mr. J. Vigor Brown, M.P. for Napier, and Mr. Payne, the newly-elected Labour candidate for Grey Lynn. This morning the Prime Minister’s party left for Taupo, where a holiday is to be spent. Sir Joseph’s many friends will regret to hear that he is not looking at all well, but we trust the brief relaxation from work will restore his health and vigor.
