THE ASKOY SURVIVORS. Sydney. Jan. 9. The remainder of the Askoy’s shipwrecked crew have arrived from Noumea. CAPTAIN’S STORY AFTER THE WRECK. (Received 10, 9.35 a.m.) Sydney, Jan. 10. Captain Morner. cf the Askay, states they were picked up 120 miles from the wreck after travelling two days. He adds little to the story of the wreck. It must have been a strong current which carried them cn to the' reef. While on the reef the vessel was surrounded by enormous sharks, which came close enough to be struck by the men. The only inconvenience experienced in the small boat was from the hot sun. Luckily the weather was fine. The boat was too small to have outlived a storm. THE JANE DOUGLAS. WRECKED ON D’URVILLE ISLAND. Nelson. Jan. 10. The Hokitika owned steamer Jane Douglas, Capt. Venclore, was wrecked at 1 a.m. on Saddle Rock at D’Urville Island. The crew are safe, being brought through French Pass on a launch. They will arrive in Nelson to-night by the Pateena. No further particulars are available. FURTHER DETAILS. The vessel was going along and was pacing between Stephens and D’urville Islands when she struck on Saddle Reeks, end on. The crewmanaged to escape but nothing could be saved as the vessel sank in five minutes. Later. •The steamer Jane Douglas was ev.-ned by Messrs Keech and Malley, cf Kumara. and was uninsured. The crew ccmprised Captain Vendore ; Mate Ingram : engineer. G. M. Brow ; cook. Brooker ; firemen, Hen-ebon and Ycr.ng; lamp trimmer Woolf: sailors, Peippo and ThomIt to’k the crew fear hours tn reach Port Hardie.
