Sir Joseph Ward has gone to the South Island. His Worship the Mayor of Hastings (Mr. James Garnett) returned from Christchurch last night. Mr. P. V. Siorkcy left by the Tarawcra this afternoon for Wellington. on route for Sydney. Mr. and Mrs Nottage and three children left by the Tarawera for Wellington this afternoon. Mr. A. G. Pallott returned to Napier last evening after a holiday in Christchurch. A Melbourne- wire announces the death of Mr. Lewis Liddle, Commissioner of the Savings Bank. Ma'-. Don Mcarns, who has been on a holiday to Napier, returned to Gisborne by the boat last evening. Mr. Charles Grindell, who lias been on a holiday visit to (lisb(■’ i>c. returned to Napier by the boat thi> morning. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Rathbone, who have been spending a holiday in Napier, returned to Waipawa ye terdav.
Mr. W, D. S. Macdonald, M.P. for the Bay' of Plenty, who has been on a visit to Napier, left for Wellington by the express this morning. Rangiuia, the Maori vocalist, is arranging a scries of i centals of Maori folk songs and dances under the patronage of the Duehc-s of Sutherland. Mr. H. L. Fowler, M.A., pihiuual of Nelson College, accompanied' by Mrs. Fowler, arrived ra Napier yesterday, and is staying at the Masonic Hotel. Mr. E. S. Harris, late representative for J. Myers and Co., Wellington, and previously manager for D. Benjamin and Co., Wellington, has pin chased the well-known storekeeping business of Mr. . I'. Evans, at Havelock Nortn. Dr. E. W. Pennyfeather, who was private sect crazy to the late Lieu-tenant-General Sir William Jcrvois when Governor of New Zealand, and for a time acting Judge of the Supreme Court, arrived in Napier yestcidny by motor ear, accompanied by Mr. Be ere. Mr. C. MaeGibbin, formerly manager of the branch ot the Bank of New South Wales at Oamaru, has arrived in Damicvirke to take up the management of the local branch. He has only’ recently returned fiom a lengthy visit to the Old Country. Mr. Greenwood, the previous manager, lias been promoted to Ashburton. Mr. W. J. White, of Hastings. left by the mail train this morning for Wellington, where to-morrow he will form one of tlie deputation to wart upon the Ministers regarding the East Coast railway route. Next week he will take part in the Northern Bowling Association’s tournament, after which he leaves for the South Island, where he will spend about six weeks holiday. The “Herald” Says: A quiet wedding was solemnised at Gisborne on Saturday by the Rev. Win. Grant, the contracting parties being Mr. W. H. Piiilp. cf Hastings, and Miss EJ. Tocmath. eldest daughter cf Mr. and Mrs. IV. Toomath, Gisborne. The bride was becomingly dresst-.i in a frock of‘cream tr.frein. tucked net yoke and sleeves finished off with s;]k bands and girdle. The happy pair left by rhe Monowai on Sunday for their future home m Hastings.
Ths funeral cf the late Mr. C. O’Donoghue took place this afternoon. The esteem in which lie was belt! by all with whom lie came into contact was testified to by the large number of people who followed the cortege to the graveside to pay their last tribute of i .“-jmet. The services at the Sacred Heart Church were conducted by the Very Rev.
