The course was in firm order and fair times vrere consequently put up. The Hastings Town Band played a fine selection of uitisiv. Rosegrove was again withdrawn from the Aotea Hurdle Race, four runners only going to the post. Donzel. who was raised 17ib for his win yesterday was out early making the pace, but at the railway bend All Trumps had his measure. After leaving Donzel it could lie seen that Fond M emory would severely trouble AH Trumps, but at the last fence the former swerved badly thereby spoiling what chance he would hive had. Donzel a bad. List. Seraphic was first favourite* in the Grandstand Handicap with Winning Post second choice and they finished in that <u<!vr in the race. Pot Luck began quickest and ran a good race for five furlongs, but when it came to racing Seraphic was the only one in it. San Pluie never got near the leaders and is evidently not as good | as she was a few weeks back. | A good field of ten lined up for the' Scurry Hack Handicap. being second choice with First Marshal third in demand. The pubk< judged the situation to a nicety for they finished in the order in which they were backed. Dreadable ran well for four furlongs, but is not wound up yet to see a strongly run race out. Thrave finished well and her running was an improvement on anything she has shown since returning from Australia. The defections of Arion:. Meremere and Composed reduced the field for the Summer Handicap to four runners. Gold Circle was a ■ staunch favourite and he led from start to finish, winning easily. At the last jump Fond Memory and All Tramp- rose together, but the latter came away again and won by half a length. Pohuiices five lengths further off. Time. .3min 17sec. A protest was entered l.y the trainer of Fond Memory on the grounds of a cross, but after hearing the evidence the judge’s placing was not disturbed. Oamaru. Jan. 2. Rain completely spoiled the holicfays and the first day's racing of the summer meeting which was postponed until to-morrow on account of the sodden nature of the course. WAIROA COUNTY RACING CLUB. Nominations for all events at the Vaiioa’s Racing Club’s meeting on January 23rd and 24th close on Wedntsdav. January 3rd, at 10 p.m. The training track is in splendid order.
