FIRES.
VAULABLE MAORI HOUSE BURNT. . Wellington. Jan. 2. News has been reeeixed of the total destruction by fire of the famous carved Macri House "Takilunnu” at Table Land, Martinhoro. From the meagre particulars available it appears "Takitunm” has been razed to the ground. It is understood that at the time of the fire —lO p.m.— on Sunday, there was only one native about . the place. J’he origin of the fire is a mystery. Tire police are conducting investigations. COTTAGE DESTROYED. Pahiai.ua. Dec. 2. A four-roomed house al Scar-, borough occupied by Mr. G,. Baker and owned by Mr. H. Dillon, was destroyed by fire, which originated through clothes being left in front of the fire and igniting. Insurances are £lOO on the house and £lOO on the furniture.
