FEDERAL POLITICS.
[ I’Bl'SS ASSOCIATION— GOPYItIGIIT. ] Melbourne. Dee. 20. Both Federal Houses are working at high pressure in view of the Christmas adjournment. The Estimates are under consideration. and the Senate has passed the Loan Bill. THE SESSION CLOSED. (Received 21. 8.45 a.m.) Melbourne, Dec. 21. The Federal session closed after a busy sitting. The House sat throughout yesterday-night and again on Wednesday till arter midnight, and passed the Estimates, the Inscribed Stock Bill, Public Service Bill, Australian Notes Bill (which carried an amendment to reduce the gold reserve on notes issue to twenty-live per cent.). Electoral Bill, a Bill to appropriate Trust funds fcr Old Age pensions ami the Senate’s amendm* nts to tariff. The Senate passed the Loan Bill through Committee, the Pacific Cable Bill in all its stages, and the Appropriation Bill. THE YVIRELESS STATIONS. In the Senate, in the course of discusion on the Postal Estimates, members criticised the action of Government in adopting an independent wireless system and presaged that the Marconi and Tekfunken Ccmpanies would be sure to bring actions for infringement of thenrights.
The Postmaster-General reiterated that if they found they were infringing anybody’s rights Government was prepared to meet them fairly. He trusted that when the Senate met after the recess they would have the seaboard fitted with wireless stations and absence of legal complications.
