H.B. EDUCATION BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Hawke's Bay Education Board was held yesterday afternoon. Present: Messrs. C. M. Whittington (chairman). J. H. Sheath. M. McLeod, G. F. Roach. G. Darton. W. Morgan and Rev. A. Grant.
TECHNICAL COMMITTEE. The following recommendations ere made :—
(1) That the director's report on the Teachers’ Art and District High Schools’ science course examinations be adopted ; (2) that Mr. Morris appointment as assistantinstructor in agriculture be extended for a period of three years ; . (3) that Air. D. Menzies, of Christchurch be appointed woodwork instiuetor at Gisborne.— Adopted. APPOINTEMNTS' COMMITTEE. The appointments’ committee recommended as follows: —(1) That the transfer of pupil-teachers at Woodville, objected to by the committee. be confirmed ; (2) that Miss Burton be transferred to Clive. Mr. Engebretsen to Taradale and Miss E. McEwan from Havelock to Hastings ; (3) that the inspector’s reports on the Greenmeadows and Pohui private schools be received and applications invited for a teacher at the Greenmeadows school ; (4) that the Northern members hold an enquiry into the suspension of the teacher at the Tokomarti Bay School ; (5) that the transfer of . a pupil teacher at Port Ahuriri be confirmed. —Adopted. FINANCE COMMITTEE. The following recommendations were, made :—(1) That a truant officer be appointed at a salary of £l2O per annum and travelling (2) that the tender of Foster Brook, Hastings, for the supply of free school books be accepted ; (3) that the letter from the Sanitary Inspector, Napier, objecting to the latripe system at Port Ahuriri be received ; (4) that the letter from Hoar and Baillie, contractors, for the Woodville Technical School, explaining the delay in the erection of the building be received ; (5) that the foreman’s report concerning the progress of the erection of conveniences at Port Ahuriri be received ; (6) that the removal of certain sheds at Waipukurau be carried out by the board’s workmen; (7) that certain lining in the Napier Main School be removed ; («) that the tender of W. De Frere of £ISG for the painting of the Napier Main school be accepted ; (9) that no action be taken with regard to the water supply at Puketapu; (10) that recommendations for repairs to the fence at Taradale be adopted; (11) that the report on the delaj* in the erection of the Mangapapa addition be received : (12) that the foreman’s suggestion that the lining at Hastings be removed by contract be agreed to. —Adopted. CH AIRMAN’S STATEMENT.

Resignations Received.—Miss M. Mclntosh, pupil teacher, Makaraka ; Miss Moxham, assistant, Te Karaka ; Miss K. Reid, pupil teacher, Napier Main. VARIOUS REPORTS.
Mr. AV. Morgan made several recommendations on fencing, levelling, etc., at Opoutama. —Matters to be attended to.
The southern members made recommendations concerning repairs needed at Heretaunga.—Received.’ Mr. AV. McLeod forwarded recommendations re the purchase of site for Matawai. —Application to be made to the Commissioner of Crown Lands for two acres.
The southern members recommended an application for the enlargement of the porch at Matahiwi should be made. —Received. Consideration of the ..southern member’s report re conversion of Woodlands into a side school was deferred until next meeting. The Middle Ward members recommended a site for a school at Makaretu South.—Adopted. SCHOOL COMMITTEE CORRESPONDENCE. Hopelands.—lmprovements to conveniences to be made if the foreman, after making an mspec- considers them nr' ' ?ry. Taradale.—£ for £to be made for cupboards. Maharahara.—Repairs to the fence and roof of residence deferred. Napier South.—Matter of supply of cupboards to be referred to the foreman. Tikokino.—Foreman to report on a wash-house chimney that was damaged in a gale. Wanstead.—A residence to be erected if the committee will contribute £l5 towards the cost of site. Port Ahuriri.—No funds for the raising of a path to conveniences. I Rakatturoa. —New conveniences to \ be erected. I Kiritaki.—Fifteen shillings, half i the cost of repairs to tank and a ; ventilator, to be granted. I GENERAL CORRESPONDENCE. ! Mr. G. Lloyd was appointed a rep- ' rt sentative on the Dannevirke High i School Board.
