The following appointments have been made by Dr. Crossley. Anglican Bishop of Auckland :—Rev. G. W. Smailes and Rev. Patrick Cleary to be vicars of the parochial districts of Te Arnim and Wailii respectively. Air. Leslie Reynolds, consulting engineer to the Wairoa Harbour Board, and Mr. Pulley, the successful tenderer for the new wharf, arrived in Napier last night, and left for 'Wellington this morning.

The death is announced at Adelaide of Sir J. Jenkin Coles, exSpeaker of the Assembly. He had occupied the chair twenty- one sessions and never missed one sitting, which is a world’s record. The funeral of the late Mr. R. R. Groom took place at Ormondville on Tuesday’ afternoon. Members of the Lion Lodge of Freemasons and the Loyal Forest Home Lodge of 1.0.0. F., M.U., were in attendance to pay their last respects, also members of the 1.0. R. and Foresters. A large number followed on foot and there were quite a number of vehicles in the procession. At the l Parish Church at Ormondville. the Vicar (the Rev. M. Cockeri!!) conducted a funeral service and from there- the procession went to the graveside, where at the conclusion of’ the Church, of England service, the Masonic Burial service was proceeded with. Members of the Rawhiti R. A. Chapter of Dannevirke were in attendance and friends from Napier, Hastings. Wtiipukurau. Takapau and Dannevirke were present to pay their last respects to the memory of the deceased.
