SERIOUS ASSAULT.

A serious alt ercat ion took place in a boardinghouse here on Saturday evening between two men, labourers. name.l Thomas Fitzgerald ami William Brown. The two were advised to settle tin’ dispute on the lawn in front of the house. Fitzgerald declined to fight and went upstairs. followed by Brown. Some time’ la'er a disturbance was beard ;tiid the inmates rushed to Fitzgerald’s room. It is alleged that Brou n forced Fitzgerald on to the bed and badly treated him. Fitzgerald was found in a semi-conscious conditio’). A doctor v;i: called i.i and ordered his removal to the hospital. He is suffering from injury to the spine, and yesterday remained in a semiconscious condition. Lmt showed some slight improvfineiit this evening. Brown was arrested and charged with assault ;:t tlic police court this morning, and remanded until next week.
