IMPERIAL POLITICS.

INSURANCE BILL. [PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.] London. Dec. 1. As the result of conferences with the British Medical Association, Mr. Lloyd George has given notice of amendments giving doctors increased representation <>n the health committees. It has been arranged that a conciliation board will settle disputes. but local authorities will arrange the remuneration. The report stage of the Insurance Bill has concluded, 470 Government amendments being passed with the assistance of the guillotine. Mr. Bonar Law declared that an outrage was being perpetrated in order that there should be no obstacle to Home Rule. If the Opposition had challenged the divisions the House would have to sit until 7.30 p.m. on Saturday evening. Mr. Lloyd George said that the bill was supposed to be non-conten-tious. The Opposition left the House in a body when a division was called. INADEQUATE AMENDMENTS. (Received 2, 9.45 a.m.) London, Dec. I. The General Federation of Trade Unions has strongly protested against separate administrations of the Insurance Bill in Scotland. Wales and Ireland. The leaders fear disintegration of trade unionism by encouraging Scottish and Welsh committees to insist on controlling their own business. Medical men declare Mr. LloydGeorge’s proffered amendments are utterly inadequate. THE WOMEN’S CAUSE. HINDERED BY 51 AD ACTS. (Received 2, 9.45 a.m.) London, Dee. 1. Sir Edward Grey has written to Lord Lytton saying that there will be better prospects of enfranchising six million women by the amendment to the Government Bill, moved by a Cabinet Minister, than by enfranchising a million by th ■ Cenciliaiin Bill, but while disorders similar to those of the 21st ult and at the City’ and the Temple continue it would l-e waste of time to actively support the women’s cause. PROTESTS AGAINST THE BILL. (Received 2.8.(» a.m.) London, Dec. I. Protests against the Insurance Bill have reached members of the House of Commons.’
