(Received 2. t 0.15 a.m.) Berlin. Dee. 1. Seventy thousand metal workers have been locked out for rejecting their unions* delegates settlement. BRITISH RAILWAYMEN. CONFERENCE AGREED TO. (Received 2, 11.15 a.m.) Loudon. Dec. I. Mr. Buxton’s invitation to railwaymen ami railway companies is suggested as a basis for a conference. and that the findings of the commission will be accepted in principle and substance by both sides. The Council of Railways to-day accepted the invitation, and the railwaymens executives have also agreed to the eonferenee. ALLEGED POISONING OUTRAGE. New Yurk. Dec. 1. Rumours that the garbage men on strike were poisoning the food of nori-strikers caused a panic among the men still working. The rumours were due to the mysterious death in the hospital of one of the nonstrikers. MARITIME STRIKE IMPROBABLE. Dunedin. Dec. 1. The New Zealand Federated Seamen have decided not to break away from the Arbitration Act. The Dunedin branch by a large majority resolved to cancel registration, but the Wellington and Auckland branches wore not in favour of it. Fears of a big maritime strike arc now very remote.
