A .STATEMENT AND A DENIAL. Auckland. Dec. 2. In Ins speii h last night. Mr. Massey referring to his action for libel against the N.Z. Times, -aid Sir John Findlav was the largest shareholder in the Times, and lie. Mr. Massey, hoped some o'ay to have the opportunity of asking Sir J. Findlay in tiie vvitness box through his solicitor who inspired the caricon which was the subject of the libel act ion. Sir J. Fmdlay, in an interv icw today. indignantly denied having had anvthmg to do with the cartoon. He said the first he heard or v-aw of the' cart mm was when ’1 was published. "I am not by any means the largest shareholder in the New Zealand Times." he sa ; d. "nor Lave I interfered in any way with that paper nor suggested -nv publication in ii. 1 had abroJntHv nothing to ! 'i with the cartoon.”
