HIGHLANDERS SOCIAL. St. Andrew’s Day was celebrated by the Hawke’s Bay Highland Sociein the Forester’s Hall, Napier, last evening, a special social and dance being held after the ordinary business had been transacted. Chieftain Hector McKenzie presided supported by Cheiftain Neilson. Air J. Moors was elected a member and Master lan Macdonald an associate member. Chieftain AlcKenzie opened the social part of the proceedings with a few remarks on St. Andrew s Day, and then followed an enjoyable programme in which songs were given by Alessrs J. P. Thomson. A. Scott and J. Neilson, and a recitation by Air. R. Watson. A Highland reel was danced by four members of the society in full regalia, and the Pipe Band contributed several items. A trio was sung by Airs Alexander, Aliss Roberts and Air. R. Yuill, and the society’s choir sang acceptably. .Mrs Timms and Airs Arrol played a pianoforte music, assisted by Air. R. Yuill (flute), for the round and country dances, and Pipers Rae and Helm for the Highland dances. A pleasant evening was spent by the large number present. ST. PAUL’S BUSY BEES. The St. Paul’s Busy Bees, an organisation formed for the purpose of interesting young girls in mission work, held a sale and Christmas tree in St. Paul’s schoolroom, Napier, yesterday afternoon and evening. The gatherings were under the control of the three ladies who were principally instrumental in forming the society. Mrs J. A. Asher, Afiss Shepherd and Aliss Boyd. In conjunction with this gathering was held the annual jumble sale in aid of the Turakina Girls School, to which, the Busy Bees annually contribute £2O. The Rev. J. A. Asher performed the opening ceremony .it 3 pan., briefly addressing those present, and immediately thereafter business was started, continuing brisk up till the closing hour. In the evening musical selections and a number of competitions added great - ly to the general enjoyment. The following were the stall holders: — Work Stall. —Aliss Smith and Aliss Neilson. Cake Stall.— -Aliss Anderson and Miss Nelson. Chirstmas Tree and Work Stall.— Airs Asher and Miss Shepherd. Lollie Stall. —Aliss Asher and Miss AlePherson. Produce Stall.--Aliss Boyd and Miss Neilson. Flower Stall— Aliss Bent and Aliss Wilson.
