Mrs. (Dr.) Macdonell left Hastings this morning on a visit to Marton. Nir. G. P. Donnelly returned from Wellington by the express last night. Dr. Chesson leaves by the Monowai for Gisborne this evening. Mrs. J. J. Faulkner left Hastings this morning for "Wellington and returns on Friday. Miss Jean Macdonald and Mr. Dave Macdonald, of Meanee. left by the express train this morning on a short visit to Feilding. Mr. T. Tudhope arrived in Napier from Wellington yesterday and will-take up liis duties as accountant in the Lands ami Survey Department, Napier. The Rev. Noel Robertshawe arrived at Dannevirke on Saturday last from Auckland, says the “News.” and will take over the duties of curate at St. Matthew’s Anglican parish. Hastings, next month. Mr. J. G. Scott, manager at Wellington of the National Bank of New Zealand, left last week on a trip to Great Britain. He will probably return via Vancouver and Japan. Mr. Knox will take his place at Wellington till he returns. Mr. Maxwell M. Carpenter, man-' ager of the Rangitikei Sawmillers' Association, Taihape, will arrive in Naper by the express train 1 this evening and will stay at the Masonic Hotel. Mr. J. J. Hammond, the New Zealand aviator, left for Sydney on Friday, en route for Europe. In all probability, he will be back in the Dominion next June or July. Mr. Hammond is now quite recovered from the attack of appendicitis which incapacitated him some six months ago.

Air. J. P. Firth, principal of Wellington College, who has been granted a year’s leave of absence, will leave New Zealand on January 19 next on a visit to England. He will sail from Auckland by the P. and 0. steamer, and vvill be accompanied by Mrs. Firth. Mr. Heine will act as headmaster in Mr. Firth's absence. The death occurred yesterday at Waipawa of -Mr. Frederick John Til’fen. resident of Napier, and erstwhile of Patangata, aged 83 years. II ewas born at Hyde. Kent, in ISSA and came to New Zealand in 1845. Fie brought the first sheep to Hawke's Bay in 1819. He acquired Elms Hill in 1859. and held the property up to the time of his death.
