A PROGRESSIVE FIRM.

To-day a representative of the “Tribune” was shown over the premises of Messrs. Pratt's, booksellers and stationers, Hastings, who have just remodelled their premises to cope with their ever increasing trade. On entering the main door the most noticeable thing is a glass ease, 9ft. by 12ft., crammed full of electro-plate and silver goods, suitable for presents, and it was noticed that everything was marked in plain figures. Besides this case there arc two others the same size, one holding the leather goods such as ladies’ hand-bags, music eases, ladies’ and gents' companions, etc. The other contains well -bound books. autograph alliums. Church books, birthday books, post card albums, ete. On the ground floor there are seven stands containing dolls, post cards, glove boxes, photo frames, books, fancy glass ware, etc. The upstairs portion is called the toy palace, where a special feature is made of 6d. 1 /,- and 2/- tables of toys. The shilling table is long and is piled up with all kinds of presents suitable for the young and one wonders how some of the lines can be made for the money. There is also a wonderful display of dolls. YVe were shown a London firm’s invoices in proof of the goods having been imported direct. The firm have recently bought Mr. H. H. McDoyall’s business in Napier and on the Ist of this month a branch was opened at Waipukurau.
