ITALY’S POSITION ON LAND
Constantinople .Nov. 16.
Ti"’ new-.paper ‘ Tanin ” admits that the Italian position on the Tripoli coast is far too strong for a successful attack, and states that Turkey has adopted a guerilla campaign tn the interior with the purpose of wearying the Italians, GERMAN VIEAV GF THE AVAR. Lieutenant-Colonel von Ruedgisch. German instructor of Turkish cavalry under Abdul Hamid, who has also trained a large proportion of Arab troops in Tripoli, informs the “National Zeitung’’ that. Italian advance into inland Tripoli is practically impossible. There is only one caravan route, and the scanty wells will be pciscncd immediately. “The Arabs," lie says, “fight like demons, and will die fighting.” Another German artillery instructor says the Turks have first-rate Krupp guns in Tiipcli, and know how to use them. The Italians may land, but they will rejoin their ships quicker than is pleasant for them. Numerous interviews with German instructors of Turkish troops all repeat the same view that the Italians are grossly- under-estimating the enemy. Colonel von Ruedgisch adds thaT Italy will lose far more by the boycott of her goods in Turkey than she can ever hope to gain from Tripoli. The oiily intelligent thing to do, he says mockingly, is to construct the long-promised desert sanatorium, and guns were not needed for that.
