Mr. and Mrs. W. Farrellv have returned to Hastings. Mrs. E. Newbegin left Hastings this morning for M ellington. Mrs. Leliecre left Hastings this morning for Auckland. Mrs. M . Watson, of Hastings, left for Waipukurau this morning. Mr. E. Crowley returned to Napier from Wellington on Saturday night. Mr. J. Vigoi- Brown. M.P., has returned to Napier. Messrs. Reg. Watson and C. Tailor left Hastings this morning mi a tour of the North Island. Mr. R. Millar, a Scotch evangelist, opened a series of addresses in the Gospel Hall, Napier, last evening. Di’, and Mrs. Valentine are expected in Napier by the express train to-night. Mrs. and Miss Murchison, of Christchurch, are on a visit to Napier.

Misses Hickey and Fox left to-day by the Mokoia for Christchurch where they will spend a short holiday.

Mr. J. King, of the Railway Department, who has been away on six weeks’ sick leave, has resumed Ins duties.

Cathedral, Dunedin, died rather suddenly a‘. midnight on Saturday at the age of 44. The late Mr. Taylor had been unwell for the last three weeks, but was thought to be convalescent, and was in his garden during the morning. Mr. S. Francis, who is now employed by the Auckland Gas Company lias received a message stating that His Majesty King George desires to personally confer on him a decoration for his conspicuous bravery. Francis at great risk to his own life descended a pit and rescued two mates who had been overcome by poisonous fumes. Mr. Francis leaves for England in December. Word was received in Napier of the death at Whangarei of Mr. Harry Nelson, formerly of Napier. Mi’. Nelson was well known and respected in this town, having been connected with the Railway Department for over 25 years. He was a Druid of long standing, having been a member of the .Albion lodge (Napier) since 1894. Mr. Nelson was a son of the Rev. John Nelson. He leaves a family 7 of seven children, four girls and two boys, the youngest girl being 4 years. The sympathy of all will be with them in their sad bereavement. Mrs. Nelson only having predeceased him by two years. Mr. Nelson, who was only transferred to Whangarei some six months ago, was a brother-in-law 7 of Mrs. Leask. of Napier.
