HOME RULE-

London, Oct. 27.

Lord Seibourne, speaking at Petersborough, said that South Africa was used as an anology for Home Rule. In South Africa it was a choice between war and union. There four separate home rulers were united in one union. Here it was propose ed to split a union into four home’ rulers

PAYMENT OF MEMBERS.

Mr. Steel-Maitland, Chairman of the Conservative Organisation, announced that the leaders of fhe Unionist party would accept their Parliamentary salary without prejudice to their right to oppose the annual vote for payment of members.

INSURANCE BILL,

Mr. Lloyd George has amended clause 18 of the 'lnsurance Bill, reducing the membership from 10,000 to 5000 for approved societies ; also providing for the grouping of societies with a membership of under 5000. The Labour members failed to secure the abolition of the medical test fo r membership. Mr. Masterman pointed out that the Government made provision for persons rejected bv societies.

LABOUR PARTY’S OPPOSITION

Alessrs. Snowden, Jowett, Thorne and Lansbury argued before the Labour party’s exeecutive for opposition to the Insurance Bill. Snowden and Lansbury took up a defiant attitude and the subject was postpone. Air. Chamberlain and other Opposition leaders complain that the amendments to the Bill will not affect the class below the Friendly Society’ members, and that it is a misnomer to describe it as a national scheme. Local Government Board Relief Societies, and Boards of Guardians are promoting a scheme to blacklist incorrigible vagrants.

THE EMPIRE'S TRADE

Replying to a question in the House of Commons. Air. Asquith hoped that the Empire Trade Couimission would shortly be appointed.
