FIRES.
A BLAZE IN N’.S.W. Sydney, Oct. 26. A big fire has just, started at Meorfoot Brothers’, agents, in the Haymarket. A 1-arfcc quantity of oils were in stock, and a lurid blaze is visible for miles distant. FURTHER DETAILS. (Received 27, 8.5 a.m.) Sydney, Oct. 27. Fire started on the premises of the Paramatta Woollen Company, occupying the two top flats. These and the higher floors of Moorfoot’s were burned out. On the lower floors a large number of motor cars, lorries, oil, and other stock were damaged by water and smoke. A number of smaller tenants also suffered. The brigades were handicapped by the poor water supply. A squad of bluejackets from the wa-rships rendered valuable assistance in removing motors and helping the firemen. The damage is estimated at £li),oo<i, and is covered by insurance'.
