EGG CIRCLE.

FORMED AT HASTINGS. A meeting of those interested in the formation of an egg circle for Eastings and district was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall. Hastings, last evening. Mr. A. M. Robertson, of Mahorn. presided. There was an a tendance of about twenty people. The provisional committee app -inted at tlm lasi Hastings Poultry Show called the meeting. It was pointed out that the low prices ruling for eggs during the summer months showed the need for combined action in the disposal of eggs. The intention was to place eggs in the best markets, thus relieving the local trade. This new method of business, it was hoped, would prove oi great benefit to the egg supplier. A further advantage would be the combined purchasing of grain and poultry requisites at wholesale prices. The chairman said it was proposed to supply each member with a rubber stamp of the circle’s brand with a number on it, so that each member’s eggs could be traced in c-.ase of complaint. The supplier would be paid for eggs supplied on the 20th of the month following the month in which they were supplied. A charge of 5 per cent, would lie made for handling, also Id. per ease for despatching, and Id. for receiving back each case. It was proposed that the Dawson egg carrier be adopted as a standard case. These cases would probably cost from 10/to 12'6 each. Regarding the purchasing of grain, probably from 12 to 15 per cent, would be saved by buying in large quantities from the South. A commission of 21. per cent, would be charged on requisites bought through the circle. He did not think the general public would pay any more for eggs on account of the circle, but probably instead of paying 2/6 per dozen in the winter they would be able to buy them for 1/6 per dozen, and further, they would be guaranteed fresh eggs.

It was decided to form an egg circle, to be known as the “Hastings and District Egg Circle.” The membership fee was fixed at 15/- pier annum. The following officers were elected i — President. Air. A. M. Robertson; vice-president, Mr. J. 'A. \Valkcr; secretary and treasurer, Mr. AV. G. Gould ; commitee. Messrs. R. Smith, R. Wilkin. W. Hart, F. Martin, A. R. Simpson, A. Johnstone, R. H. Smith, A. F. McNab, and IL Cheer. It was decided that the body be incorporated. Twenty members were elected.
